Who Am I?

Welcome! My name is Corey, and I am just starting out on my Provincial Instructors Diploma Program journey through Vancouver Community College. I am a life long British Columbian, and a proud father of two wonderful boys. I am coming into the program with an extensive 12 year background in Healthcare, specifically as a Registered Nurse with an Emergency Specialization. Like many others during the pandemic, I made the decision to leave my career in Healthcare. I gave up my Nursing license in hopes for a career pivot, and a new sense of life balance and wellness. What I discovered through volunteer peer support group facilitation, and working as a community coordinator for a local nonprofit, is that my greatest asset is my ability to communicate with others, and meet individuals where they are at, in any given moment. I am hoping to bring my empathy and intuition into the classroom, to help adult learners reach their goals, and start on their new path, just as I am doing. It is my fundamental belief that if an individual can be welcomed from the margins of a society, into a safe community fold, that they can shine, and find strengths that they didn't know they have, whether its at work, at home, or elsewhere. When I am not teaching or studying, I love gardening, and exploring my community with my partner and our children. The longer I am a parent, the more I understand where I came from, and where I hope to go in life.
